Discovery Leads to Rapid Mouse "Personalized Trials" in Breast Cancer
Using a finding that the genetic complexity of tumors in mice parallels that in humans, researchers are starting trial studies in mice, just like human clinical trials, to evaluate whether understanding tumor diversity can improve cancer treatment. [Duke University Institute for Genome Sciences, Durham]
Malignant Signature May Help Identify Patients Likely to Respond to Therapy
A molecular "signature" that helps account for the aggressive behavior of a variety of cancers such as pancreatic, breast and melanoma may also predict the likelihood of successful treatment with a particular anti-cancer drug. [Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego]
HPV Vaccine May Prevent Breast Cancer
Using genetic probes, researchers tested cancerous breast cells and found several strains of HPVs known to have a high risk of initiating cancer of the cervix. HPV has a causal role in 90-95 per cent of cervical cancers. [University of New South Wales, Sydney]
